    The Werley family is of French Huguenot descent and originally the name
    was spelled Werle. Sebastian Werley and his wife, Rosina Derr, accompanied
    by her brother, John Derr, emigrated to Pennsylvania before 1750 and settled on
    a farm in Allemangel, now Weisenberg township, where he built a house some
    distance from an Indian path which led to an Indian village, where the Holben
    mill dam is nowsituated in Lynn township, and when the Indians passed, his wife
    would favor them occasionally with a loaf of bread, a kindness which was
    reciprocated by them. He took up large tracts of land in that vicinity. He had
    six children: John Nicholas, generally called "Hannickle," who was the eldest,
    born on the ocean; Michael; Catharine, married to a Billman; Dewald, married
    to Miss Mumma;Valentine, generally called "Feldi," who married a Miss George;
    Maria, who married a Snyder; and Rosina, who married Bernhard Kressly.
