MANCHESTER CENTER, Vt. - Dorothy Meixell Whalen, 81, of Equinox Terrace,
died Thursday at her residence after a long illness.
Born in Bethlehem, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Marcella Clay
Meixell and widow of George W. Whalen Sr. She resided in West Sand Lake for
45 years, in Greenwich for 14 years, and for the past two and a half years lived
at Equinox Terrace. She received her education in Watervliet.
She served in the Navy during World War II as a pharmacists mate.
Mrs. Whalen worked for the New York state Thruway Authority in Delmar for
25 years, retiring as the purchasing agent in 1978.
She was a member of the American Business Women's Association.
Survivors include two sons, George W. Whalen Jr. and TimothyC. Whalen,
both of Greenwich; two sisters, Patricia Hull of Troy and Barbara Owens of
Glens Falls; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home Inc.,
4392 Route 150, West Sand Lake with the Rev. C. Joseph Ingraham, pastor
emeritus of the Christ Church United Methodist, officiating. Burial will be in
Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Parkinson Disease and Movement Foundation,
