I feel pretty confident that Susanna really fits into Henry's family and not the Adam Bollender
family. It appears that Susanna married George Michael around/before 1790, when
the family was still in Northampton County. Since Susanna had inlaws there (the
Lilly and Wenner families), she could have been at the Stone Church. In fact, the
baptismal sponsor to a Lilly there, (Susanna Bolarm 1788) seems to be her - there were
no families named Bolarm or anything similar anywhere in the area (the state) at that
time.

Further, the timing of Adam's kids would mean that she was sandwiched in between
two other known children with less than a year between each of the 3 births which
would be unusual. And there are no records anywhereconnecting Susanna to
that family. Only Fisher's speculation based on proximity.

Floyd's History of Northumberland County states that Susanna was from Greenwich
Twp, Berks County. He doesn't elaborate to indicate that he had found this out
from his own research. He does discuss a descendent, living at thetime of his
book, named Matthias D. Bastian, born in 1838 who would have known his grandmother
who died in 1864. In fact, Mathias and his father Daniel are listed right next to Susanna's
household in both the 1850 and 1860 census.

It seems likely that Matthias could have confirmed the stated location of
his grandmother's birth or even provided the information. If Floyd's account of her being
born in Greenwich Twp is then to be believed, Henry Bollender is theonly possible
candidate. And since he is shown to have had a daughter named Susanna, born
at about that time (confirmation in 1785), I believe these are her parents.

And one other way to decide which is the "right" Bollender family - two of Henrich
Bolander's other daughters married first cousins of GM Bastian Jr: one married
Jacob Lilly who's mother was a Wenner, and one married GM Wenner, son of
Andreas Wenner (and GM Bastian's mother was the sister Magdalena Wenner). So it's not
that unlikely that he could have met Susan.

Note that in the Orphans Court records of Berks Co, 4 Mar 1785, Susanna can't
write and signs by an X. Susanna also signs with an X on the deed of 1843,
Northumberland County, deed DD:78 (though of course, they don't show the
original 'X' and it would be hard to match 'X's that many years apart!)

Daniel Bastian, son of George Michael, Sr.[sic Jr] , was born Aug. 8, 1806, in what
is now Snyder county, Pa., and was a young man when he came across the river
into Upper Augusta township. There he married Elizabeth Drayer, daughter of
Matthias Drayer and they were Lutheran members of the Lantz Church in what is
now Rockefeller township, both being buried at that church.Mrs. Bastian died
Jan. 21, 1869, aged fifty-nine years, three month twenty-seven days. Mr.
Bastian died Dec. 29, 1879. He was a potter, and followed his trade in Sunbury
and Upper Augusta township for many years, in his later life also engaging to
some extent in carpentering. Mr. and Mrs. Bastian had a large family, as
follows: Sarah died in childhood; Joseph was killed while serving in the Civil
war (he was married); George, a carpenter, died Feb. 3, 1897, aged sixty years,
five months, ten days; Matthias D. is mentioned below; Henry died in young
manhood, in Rockefeller township; Polly married Jeremiah Cooper and they lived
in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Landis is a farmer in Upper Augusta; Daniel died Sept. 25,
1878, aged thirty-one years, two months, twelve days; Mary Ellen married Samuel
Fry and died Aug. 5, 1829, aged fifty-six years, ten months, twelve days;
Jeremiah, of Sunbury, is a painter; Anna married Henry Naseand they live in
Chicago.

In the Conrad plot is a Parker Grub, 22 Nov 1890-8 Feb1891, buried 9 Feb at Pomfret Manor. Also recorded in Henry's Bible. Perhapsa child of daughter Margaret?? (her father dec'd and she was 19 years old). but Henry's will of 1895 calls her Margaret Conrad, and she's living at home then. That would also match the fact that a cousin thought Parker buried in the Conrad plot was "Aunt Maggy's child". Or perhaps an illigimate child of one ofthe sons??

Sneak thieves entered the kitchen of Henry B Conrad's residence,on 435 Fairmont Ave, East Sunbury, Tuesday night. They stole several coats, apair of shoes, cakes and a few other articles. Charles Barnhart's house on Reagon St was also entered the same night and a number of articles were carried off. It is thought that the same thieves committed both robberies.

Henry B. Conrad died at his late residence Sunday evening at 10:30 o'clock of a complication of diseases. He was aged 70 years, 7 months, and 21 days. The deceased was one of Sunbury's oldest citizens and commanded the respect and esteem of a large circle of friends who mourn with the bereaved family. The funeral will be held from the Reagon Street Lutheran Church, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. interment at Pomfret Manor Cemetery.

Retired PRR Employee dies
A marital union of more than 51 years was broken with the death of Simon Peter Conrad in his home, 416 Fairmount Ave, at 7:25 o'clock this morning. He had been bedfast for the past 6 months with complications. He was aged 78 years, one month and 5 days. He was born in Sunbury, September 1 1863, the son of the late Henry B and Mary Ann Conrad. The golden weddingof Mr and Mrs Conrad was celebrated by their family in August, 1940. Mrs. Conrad's maiden name was Margaret A. Knisely, and she was a native of Juniata Valley. Entering the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1883, Mr. Conrad was engaged for 45 years as a car repairman on the Williamsport Division, first in the Sunbury shops and late at Northumberland. He retired September 1, 1938, at the age of 65 years. He was for many years a member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church. He gave up other affiliations with advancing years. He is survived by his wife: one daughter Mrs James Linderman, of Jersey Shore; 3 sons, Robert E Conrad and Russel E Conrad of Sunbury, and William D Conrad of Wilmington DE; 3 sisters, Mrs William Welch of South 4th Street, Mrs William Neuer of North 4th Street, and Mrs Margaret Geiser of Philadelphia, PA; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchilden. His son Robert E Conrad is city controller and treasurer of Milton Jarrett Norman Post No 201, American Legion. He is the second member of the post to be bereaved by loss of his father within two days, the first being Joh Bayers. Fungeral services will be held from his home, 416 Fairmont Ave, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev L.B. Barton, Pastor of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church will officate. Info from Mine Inspector Report, Schuykill Co Historical Society

David was killed on December 10, 1909, at the Centralia Colliery
of the Lehigh ValleyCoal Company. He was married and left a widow
and 6 orphans.

He was employed as a "headman" at the colliery. The circumstances
of his death were that he was under a "gunboat" (a large iron mine car
which travels from the mine tothe top of the breaker with 10 tons of coal).
He was oiling the wheels on thegunboat when suddenly it moved backward
crushing him beneath it. The gunboatmoves up and down a slope or
incline from the mine to the top of the breaker by means of a cable attached
to an engine in an engine house some distance away. Apparently the
hoisting engineer was unaware that David was under the gunboat and
released the brake.

Notes:

"Aunt Maggie" was to have had the child Parker Grub, buried in the Conrad
plot and recorded in Henry B Conrad's Bible. I think this is the Aunt Maggie in
the story. Note that the will of Henry calls her Margaret Conrad (in 1895)
soit would seem that she hadn't actually been married then.

Could she have possibly married Harry Grubb instead? One is living in
Philly in 1900 (married 5 years, but no wife listed). No, see note under
Parker Jr, which has a newspaper reference to Parker being a son of Parker [Sr]

Death of Charles H. Conrad, aged 26 years, 7 months, and 8 days,
died at his home, 435 Fairmont Ave, Friday afternoon, August 15 1902,
of consumption. He is survived by a wife Carrie M and a daughter
Leono May Conrad. The funeral took place Monday morning at 10 o'clock.
Interment at the Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
