    Notes:

the name Anna Catharine is from the baptism at Reading (since Catharine would
be short for Anna Catharine in the German naming convention). She's mentioned
as just Catharine in 1799 deed.

Catharine signed by the mark "T" on deed L:122 of 1799 when
selling land to their daughter Susanna.

Jacob sold land to Nicholas Shipman in 1805 without his wife's signature, so
presumably she had died by then.

Someone sent me this (need to check my email inbin for source). Not sure if
    it will match up:

"One thing he had was a maiden name for Jacob's wife. He has her as Anna Catharin Hinsberger with a question mark following the name. I don't know if he means the spelling maybe wrong or the entire name. She is listed as dau. of Georg Hinsberger and Elizabeth. He also has a father for Jacob, Peter which could be a good guess given how often Peter turns up in the early Conrad ancestors. He has Peter and Jacob being from Prussia."

A place on the net has this Jacob Conrad m Catharine Hinsberger, child Anne-Marie

The following is from an affadavit
Nicholas Conrad made on behalf of Mary Magdalena (Schaefer) Peiffer, 16 March 1838,
pension file #R.8078, John George Peiffer):

Also came John Nicholas Conrad, who, on his solemn oath duly administerd, says he
was born on the 15th, of October 1764, that in the fall of 1773, his father moved
from near Reading Pennsylvania to Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County
Pennsylvania, and that soon after, deponent became acquainted with Mary M.
Shaffer, now Mrs Peiffer, the within applicant and daughter of John Shaffer who
then resided in said Township about six miles distant from deponents fathers. That
about the year 1776 he became acquainted with George Peiffer, who also resided
in said Township, about 13 miles from deponents, and that the said George Peiffer and
Mary M. Shaffer were intermarried, as deponent belives, in the forepart of the year
1781 - that he knows of the said Peiffer'smarching as a volunteer and militia man
from Mahanoy Township in the spring of 1777, for the neighborhood of Philadelphia
and as deponent understood at thetime, was to join this regiment, or men under
the command of Col. Potter of Pennsylvania, and afterwards learnt, that the
said Peiffer had been in the battle of Germantown, but deponent cannot now say
how long he was out in ervice, but is of the belief it was six months. After the
marriage of the said Peifferin the summer of 1782, deponent with many others in
Mahanoy Township, was called upon to
march against the Indians, he went to Sunbury, the place of rondezvous, when he
saw Peiffer on duty ready to march, but in a different company to that in which
deponent was.- he marched up the West branch and Peiffer up the North Branch, but
how long said Peiffer was out deponent cannot say. Afterdeponent moved to
Meadville Penna. in the year 1802, when he has continued toresided ever since,
with an interval from 1807 to 1814 - the said Peiffer also moved to the said County
about the year 1803. It was always understood in Mahanoy that Peiffer had been
out at different times on duty against the British and Indians, but how often and
when from the great lapse of time and failureof memory, deponent cannot now tell
except as above stated. He always considered him, as well as his wife, as
credible persons, and in whose word full reliance could be placed.
Sworn in open court. March 1838. "Jo han Nich laus Conrath"

    ##################### from another source:
Died 17 August 1841, age 77 (or per Crawford Statesman, 19 Aug. 1841)

I would guess that Nicholas wasreally born in 1763, not 1764 as from the
statement above. That would match his death being at age 77, and that he
wouldn't have been born on the boat (!).

and weak," made his will July 8, 1815, and it was probated Aug. 29,
1815. His wife's name was Catharine, and the following sons and
daughters are mentioned: Catharine (married John Zerfoss), Jacob,

************************ A note on his son Christian:

Biographical Souvenir of the Counties of Delaware & Buchanan, IA, Vol II,
    1890:
Christian Coonrod, a farmer, residing in Coffin's Grove township, about
six miles northwest of Manchester, is certainly the oldest man in Delaware
county, and probably the oldest man in northeast Iowa. He says that he was
born September 22, 1780. He would, therefore, at this writing (September,
1890) be 110 yearsold. There are no means at hand for verifying the dates,
the fact as to the time of his birth resting upon his memory, unsupported by
any corroborative evidence. Still, if we grant Mr. Coonrod the same privileg
in reference to testifying for himself as to his age that we grant other men,
and take his statement in reference to that fact as we take the statements of
other men, the date above given must stand in the record as the time when he
made his appearance inthis world. He was born in Cumberland county, PA, and
comes of ancestry which, according to his statement, was remarkable for its
longevity. His father, Jacob Coonrod, lived to be only 55, but his
grandfather Coonrod reached the great age of 106; his grandmother Coonrod was
something over 100, while his mother died at 102 and his maternal grandfather
at 97. He is of German & French extraction, his father having been a native
of Germany & his mother, whose maiden name was Catherine Steinbrook, a native
of France. Christian Coonrod was reared in Cumberland county, PA. He served
in the War of 1812, taking part in the assault on Queenstown heights & the
battle of Fort Erie, witnessing Perry's great victory on the lake, & concluded
his military career at Sackett's harbor, where he was discharged at the end of
the war. He remembers events connected with the war quite well, but he can
not fix dates. This, and the fact that he lost his discharge papers years
ago, has prevented his getting a pension for his military services at that
    time.
Returning to Pennsylvania at the close of the War of 1812, Mr. Coonrod
took up farming, & followed it until the Erie canal was opened to traffic,
when he sought & secured employment on that, running a line boat for several
years between the chief commercial points on that water-way. He had
previously operated a small boat on the Schuylkill River, when Philadelphia
was a place of only a few thousand, Reading, a small country town, &
Pittsburgh consisted of two stores & a boarding-house.

lived in Augusta township Northumberland county, and whose wife was
Magdalena. He evidently died advanced in years, and his will, made May
30, 1837, was probated June 12, 1837. The children were: Jacob, John,
Henry, Christian, David; Daniel (obtained homestead), Catharine (Mrs.
Wagner, deceased), Magdalena (married Samuel Kreager), Elizabeth (Mrs.
Kreidinger, who lived in French Creek, Crawford Co., Pa.) and Mary (Mrs.
    Barger).

######################## OLD NOTES (now know she's a Steinbruch!)
My Dad has Peter's wife listed asa Krieger, but he can't remember the source. I
can't find any Krieger's in the area at the time and find the claim dubious. My
    guesses would include:

    - the people Peter had land dealings with - Hunter, Stinebrook, etc
    - his neighbor and friend George Savage or his wife as a relative of hers
    - she might bea sister of Peter's sibling's spouses. ie, Long, Hall, etc.

Since the son Daniel used the middle initial "P", one might guess it was for the
mother's maiden name (like common German usage at the time)

Some people have him as "Peter Christian Conrad". I've seen no contemporary
references to him by that name. It looks to me like someone tried
merging this Peter Conrad with a different Christian Conrad?

Christian Conrad, 104 years, Coffin's Grove, Delaware county

    ######################################################
Biographical Souvenir of the Counties of Delaware & Buchanan, IA, Vol II,
    1890:
Christian Coonrod, a farmer, residing in Coffin's Grove township, about
six miles northwest of Manchester, is certainly the oldest man in Delaware
county, andprobably the oldest man in northeast Iowa. He says that he was
born September 22, 1780. He would, therefore, at this writing (September,
1890) be 110 years old. There are no means at hand for verifying the dates,
the fact as to thetime of his birth resting upon his memory, unsupported by
any corroborative evidence. Still, if we grant Mr. Coonrod the same privileg
in reference to testifying for himself as to his age that we grant other men,
and take his statement in reference to that fact as we take the statements of
other men, the dateabove given must stand in the record as the time when he
made his appearance in this world. He was born in Cumberland county, PA, and
comes of ancestry which, according to his statement, was remarkable for its
longevity. His father, Jacob Coonrod, lived to be only 55, but his
grandfather Coonrod reached the great age of 106; his grandmother Coonrod was
something over 100, while his mother died at 102 and his maternal grandfather
at 97. He is of German & Frenchextraction, his father having been a native
of Germany & his mother, whose maiden name was Catherine Steinbrook, a native
of France. Christian Coonrod wasreared in Cumberland county, PA. He served
in the War of 1812, taking part in the assault on Queenstown heights & the
battle of Fort Erie, witnessing Perry's great victory on the lake, & concluded
his military career at Sackett's harbor, where he was discharged at the end of

    Tim's notes:
it certainly seems like Christian belongs in this family, considering hisparents being
Jacob Conrad and Catharine Steinbrook. The ages seem exaggerated, including
his own. Growing up in Cumberland Co could be possible since Christian was
orphaned at a young age. Or it refers to Northumberland.

(who is Susanna? I doubt a daughter based on estate records. Rather, it's
likely a child of a sibling/cousin helping out.
Notice out of order ages, as in kids listed first, then others).

Christiana's land was passed on to Henry (Harry) B. and Benjamin B.
    See Deed book TT:373.

1827 poor tax, $45 or $2.68 (probably the latter)

sp - 1819 Peter Conrad and Juliana Wilhelm (wf is Catarina !?)
sp - 1829 John Zimmerman and Magdalena

The reasons for placing Henry here are:
    - Henry fits here age wise (consider Peter's will to mention kids inage order)
    - Henry died owning the same land described as given from Peter tohis son Henry
    in Peter's will
    - the 1830 census record for Henry, s/o Peter, match this Henry's family (while others don't)
    - the 1820 census (Jr) probably refers to "Younger" in this case, not s/o Henry
    - Henry the elder (s/o Jacob Conrath) had a son Henry born much later
    - Henry doesn't fit in to the otherfamilies

So I have no doubt he is the son of Peter Conrad

Note how old Henry and Christina are when they are married. Perhaps she or both were marriedbefore? But the estate records don't seem to show any other decendents.

Probably a daughter also. At Stone Church "daughter of Henry Conrad, stillborn,
    died/buried 18 aug 1827"

I still see a daughter Susanna showing up as a child of Henry. But she's not mentioned in the estate records, so I doubt that the Susannah from the 1850 census is a daughter of his. Especially the part where Susannah married Daniel Zartman. Daniel shows up in the estate records when Henry died, but as an unbiased neighbor when checking the property. If he was really a son-in-law, he wouldn't be unbiased and wouldn't be evaluating the land for his brothers-in-law. If he did marry Susannah, and she was a Conrad, shewasn't a daughter of Henry. - note - found Susanna Conrad w/o Daniel Zimmerman, buried at Lantz, 8/1/1817 - 6/6/1901 (still not a d/o of Henry in my opinion)

Henry married Maria Christina BASTIAN Bef 1820, Augusta Twp, Northumberland Co, PA. In the Conrad plot is a Parker Grub, 22 Nov 1890-8 Feb1891, buried 9 Feb at Pomfret Manor. Also recorded in Henry's Bible. Perhapsa child of daughter Margaret?? (her father dec'd and she was 19 years old). but Henry's will of 1895 calls her Margaret Conrad, and she's living at home then. That would also match the fact that a cousin thought Parker buried in the Conrad plot was "Aunt Maggy's child". Or perhaps an illigimate child of one ofthe sons??

Sneak thieves entered the kitchen of Henry B Conrad's residence,on 435 Fairmont Ave, East Sunbury, Tuesday night. They stole several coats, apair of shoes, cakes and a few other articles. Charles Barnhart's house on Reagon St was also entered the same night and a number of articles were carried off. It is thought that the same thieves committed both robberies.
