John (Hans) YODER was born on 10 Mar 1672 in Steffisburg, Berne, Switzerland. He immigrated in 1709/10 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He resided in 1734 in Oley Twp., Pennsylvania. John Joder paid Taxes on 200 acres of land in 1734. He died in 1741/42 in Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. Oley would become part of Berks County in 1752 He signed a will in 1741/42 in Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. In the Name of God, Amen. the Seventeenth Day of June inthe Year of our Lord, 1739. I John Jodder of Oley in the County of Philadelphia, yeomen being pretty old and weack in body but of perfect mind and ----------- and Thanks be gvien unto God, Therefor calling into Mind of --------- of by Body and Knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to dye, do make and ordain this my Last Wel and Testament. That is to say, pricipally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it; and for my Body, I recomend it to the Earth, to be buried in a Christian licke and decent Manner, athe Descretion of my Executor, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection, I shall receive the same again to the mighty Power of God. Hans Yoder was twice married. His first wife was named Veronica "Iselmyn". At least that is the way her name was spelled in the records of the oldest Reformed Church in Pennsylvania. This is the church that Hans Yoder joined on his arrival in 1709/1710, the Dutch Reformed congregation at Whitemarsh, north of Philadelphia. I have checked the original record book written in Holland Dutch, now in the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, and the transcription is as above given. This presents a problem. Is "Iselmyn" a Holland Dutchman's way of spelling the Emmenthal name "Eschelmann", or what is more likely, the Thun-Steffisburg name "Huselmann"? I have not yet been able to solve this problem, or to find the place or date of this marriage. All we know is that Hans and Veronica were married as early as 1699/1700, the birthdate of their son Hans Yoder, Jr-(1700-1779). The source for the name "Iselmyn" is William J. Hinke,ed.,"Church Record of Neshaminy and Bensalem, Bucks County,1710-1738," Journal of the Presbyterian Historical Society,I:l (May 1901),111-134. When did Hans Yoder leave Switzerland? Again the year is not known, but he does turn up in the Palatinate in 1708-1709, in the village of Schwetzingen, not far from Mannheim and Heidelberg. Schwetzingen centers around the summer residence of the Electors of the Palatinate, the great Schloss which is still standing amidst its formal gardens. With Hans Yoder's knowledge of farming and milling he probably was hired to work in some capacity for the Elector. Unfortunately the Schwetzingen council minutes (Ratsprotokolle) for this period are missing.
Our knowledge of his residence in Schwetzingen comes from the Reformed Church Registers of the town. As some of my readers know, there is extensive research going on at present into the backgrounds of the "1709ers",the Palatine emigrant of 1709, sponsored by Hank Jones of Universal City, California. His European researcher, Karla Mittelstaedt-Kubaseck, whom I know personally, attended a lecture I gave at a conference in the Palatinate in 1974. I asked her to be on the lookout for any reference she might locate to Hans or Yost Yoder, Some time later she wrote me that in going through the Schwetzingen Reformed Church Register, on deposit in the Baden Church Archives at Karlsruhe, she found Hans Yoder in Schwetzingen in the years 1708-1709. Hans and Veronica Yoder had a daughter Anna Regina, baptized January 27, 1708, with Jacob Korner, schoolmaster, and his wife Rachel as sponsors. In connection with this entry the pastor later added that "this family went to the Island of Pennsylvania,March 1, 1709". Like many Europeans of time, the pastor probably thought that Pennsylvania was just another of those West Indian Islands.
By May 6,1709, Hans Yoder was in London, with hundreds of refugee Palatines, preserved in the British Library , Hans Joder's name (misspelled as "Fodder" when the lists were published in 1709) appears among the "First Arrivals" (Yoders are always on time!). His age was given as 38, his occupation that of "husbandman" (farmer), and his religion Reformed. Accompanying him were his wife, two sons aged 9 and 4, and a daughter aged one year. The source of this information is the article, "Lists of Germans from the Palatinate who came to England in 1709," in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Register, XLI (1709).
These lists are the key to Hans Yoder's early movements, settlements, and personal relationships in Pennsylvania. With his name in the London Lists appear the names of John LeDee and Philip Kuhlwein. This is significant, since Hans Yoder's second wife, who he married in Pennsylvania April 29,1711, was Anna Rosina LeDee, daughter of Jean LeDee, usually spelled LeDez. Philip Kuhlewein (1683-1737) became Hans Yoder's brother-in-law in marrying another daughter of Jean LeDez. Both LeDez Kuhlewein settled in Oley with Hans Yoder, in fact preceded him there.
Hans Yoder must not have been as "poor" as some of his Palatine countrymen in London. Most of them were shipped by Queen Anne either to County Limerick in Ireland, or to the Hudson Valley in New York to make naval stores for the British government. Hans Yoder, along with Jean LeDez, Philip Kuhlewein, Hans Jacob Fullweiler, Gerhard Clemens and a few others listed, managed to come directly to Philadelphia, where they became founders of Pennsylvania Dutch rather than of New York Palatine families.
Where did Hans Yoder first settle? On January 14,1711, he purchased a tract of 275 acres along the Schuylkill River in Coventry Township, Chester County, some where opposite the present Fottstown. He purchased this land from John Henry Kerson (Rersten) who later appears in Oley as well. On the same date, January 14,1711, an adjoining tract was bought from Kerson (Kersten) by Hans Jacob Fullweiler (1682-1715), who also appears in the London Lists. The purchase of adjoining tracts on the same day implies some relationship between the two men. (Could Fullweiler's wife Barbara have been Hans Yoder's sister Barbara, born at Steffisburg in 1676? If so she would have been six years older than her husband, improbable in those days but in no case impossible.) Fullweiler died in 1715, and on June 28, 1718 his widow, now the wife of Martin "Meyleen" (Mylin) of Straburg, Lancaster County, sold the Fullweiler property to Jacob Buckholtz. Yes there is also a Buckholtz in the London Lists. It all ties together.
On March 25,1714, Hans Yoder received his warrant from William Penn for land along the upper Manatawny Creek in the Oley Valley. This included most of the land around what is now called Pleasantville but for many years was known as "Yotterschdettle" (Yodertown). Hence on March 19,1717,"John Joader" and his wife Rosina sold his Schuylkill Valley farm to Henry Parker. These transfers of title to the Coventry tracts are recited in two lengthy deeds in the Philadelphia Archives, recorded in Deed Book G-8, pp. 130-131, both recorded August 28,1746.

The marriage of Hans Yoder and Anna Rosina LeDee was performed by Paulus van
Vlecq, Dutch Reformed pastor, at Whitemarsh, the church of which Hans Yoder was
a member from the beginning of the church record in 1710. The record reads:

CONFLICT WITH THE INDIANS

"On or near the spot where now stands the stately mansion and other excellent buildings, was first erected a small house, the home of Hance Yoder and family. The precise date of this I was not informed; that at that time all around was yet a mere wilderness inhabited by Indians and beasts. His only neighbor was Yost Yoder.

"One day Mr. Yoder, accompanied by his wife (a helpmate of those days), was engaged in extending their farmland by clearing away more of the forest in the field lying opposite the Pleasantville Hotel. The industrious parents had closed up their cabin with all their children in order to protect them from harm from the beasts which occasionally straggled along, and engaged themselves the more earnestly to their arduous toil, being assured that all was safe and secure at home.

"Yoder and his wife were however not long at work in the field that day before they were alarmed by the report of a gun in the direction of the house. They hastened to the house and found a gang of neighboring Indians, who were intoxicated. They had come to the house to see Mr. Yoder who, by the way, was an intimate friend of theirs. But when they came to the house and found the door locked and yet somebody within, they thought they were intentionally refused admittance. They became enraged and indignant and, being drunk, without forethought fired through the door with a rifle. Mr. Y. was one of those that lacked not courage and was speedily amongst them and found them very boisterous and threatening, but without giving them time he gave them a thorough switching. With this the whole party left with threats of revenge. Neither was kept long in suspense for soon the company, with quite accession, returned demanding satisfaction. The later portion fortunately were sober. Yoder coolly told them all that had transpired and showed them the bullet hole in the door of the house and the helpless children within, and how easily they might have killed some of his very dear children. This had the desired effect. One Indians became enraged at the perpetrator, so that they would have murdered him outright had it not been for the kind intervention of Mr. Yoder, who with difficulty persuaded them to desist inasmuch as no harm had occurred. He advised them to go home in peace and do no more, which they agreed to do. The rifle ball fortunately had done no harm within.

They had also carried off a bundle of Yoder's deerskins which were returned by the latter company but Y. refused them, on the ground that he was in fall satisfaction. They, however, insisted on returning them to Yoder.

The YODERs of Oley origin and first settlement form another American plant, transplanted from a German-Swiss canton to this western continent soil early in the 18th century.

The name as first found in documents preserved is given as YODER, YOTTER, JOTTER, but it has now for a number of generations been invariably fixed as YODER.

Yost (Jost) Yoder was a disciple of Nimrod, for he was "a mighty hunter." As a frontiersman his chief occupation is said to have been hunting and trapping. It seems to have been his pastime between clearing the forest and cultivating the soil. Will signed May 29, 1741, probated Jan 14, 1742.

Some of Yost's family were rough and ready frontier types as well. An old by-word in Oley was "like YostNannes"-i.e.,rough and uncouth.
The Yoder ghost story, as related by Elizabeth Yoder, Yost's daughter, in 1743, tells how her father's spirit returned to visit her. It seems that like most ghosts, he had a message for his daughter which he was unable to give her before his death. It was to "scorn and despise not the Frenchman," i.e.:Dr. George deBenneville (1703-1793), who was the pioneer preacher of the Universalist gospel in America. He lived in Germantown but also had a base in Oley. On being asked by his daughter where he was, Yost Yoder's ghost answered that he was "at a good place," and his beloved brother (Hans) was there too. This story appeared in a bestseller volume of ghost appearances, with religious commentary, published by Christopher Sauer in Germantown in 1744. It was reprinted in 1748,1755, and 1792.

(Research): there is a record of seven of his nine children. These were in the order of their birth: (1) Johannes, often called Yost (1718-1812); (2) Jacob, (3) Samuel, (4) Mary, (5) Catharine, (6) Elizabeth, and (7) Esther. In addition to this, Yost's brother, Hans YODER, left four sons to give the YODER name and stock a good start. Their names were Hans, Samuel, Peter and Daniel.
These two immigrant brothers took up land on the Manatawny in 1714, the former where Pleasantville is now located. This village, first called "Yottersville," his eldest son, Johannes (John), founded and he is buried there. His tombstone inscription reads as follows: "Hier ruhet Johannes YODER. Er wurde geboren 1718. Verehlichte sich mit Catharine LYSTER (LESHER), 1747, und zeugte 4 sohne und 5 tochtern. Starb den 7 ten April, 1812, bach seiner 66 yahr in der ehe gelebet hatte. War alt worden 94 yahr und 14 tag."

OLEY FORGE. The Oley forge was situated on the Manatawny Creek, about ten miles from its confluence with the Schuylkill, and about a half-mile south of the "Oley Churches." It continued in active operation for one hundred and twenty years. In 1744 John Ross(Betsy Ross's husband), gentleman, of Philadelphia, and John Yoder and John Lesher, of Oley, entered into a joint partnership for erecting a forge for manufacturing pig metal into bar iron. They then purchased from Sebastian Graeff a tract of one hundred and ninety-seven acres of land, situated in Oley Township, on the Manatawny Creek, adjoining lands of Robert Stapleton and John Yoder, and the "Great Road" leading to Philadelphia; and thereon erected a forge, constructed a water pond, water courses, and the necessary buildings, and supplied the utensils for the business of making bar iron; and they also purchased warrants for taking up land on the hills adjacent to the forge in order to supply it with charcoal. In 1750 John Yoder sold to John Lesher his one-third interest "of said tract and of the forge, working gears, tools, implements, dams, etc." Lesher and Ross held their respective interests in the forge till Ross's death. In the settlement of the partnership affairs litigation arose between Lesher and the Ross estate. This was being conducted in 1784, when Lesher sold his two-thirds to his son Jacob Lesher, an iron-master, and his sons-in-law, John Potts, a miller, and Jacob Morgan, a merchant. In 1794 Frederick Spang, an iron-master of Oley, obtained an interest in this forge property, and some years afterward secured all the interests. He, and, after his decease, his son Jacob, and grandson of the same name, carried on the iron business here for seventy years, until the close of the Rebellion. During this long interval, especially for fifty years, the forge was

Some of Yost's family were rough and ready frontier types as well. An old by-word in Oley was "like YostNannes"-i.e.,rough and uncouth.
The Yoder ghost story, as related by Elizabeth Yoder, Yost's daughter, in 1743, tells how her father's spirit returned to visit her. It seems that like most ghosts, he had a message for his daughter which he was unable to give her before his death. It was to "scorn and despise not the Frenchman," i.e.:Dr. George deBenneville (1703-1793), who was the pioneer preacher of the Universalist gospel in America. He lived in Germantown but also had a base in Oley. On being asked by his daughter where he was, Yost Yoder's ghost answered that he was "at a good place," and his beloved brother (Hans) was there too. This story appeared in a bestseller volume of ghost appearances, with religious commentary, published by Christopher Sauer in Germantown in 1744. It was reprinted in 1748,1755, and 1792.

Jacob enlisted in 1757, at the age of 22 years, in the provincial service of Pennsylvania, where he served as a saddler for three years in Capt. John Nicholas Wetherhold's Company. During the Revolutionary war he was a private in Capt. Peter Nagle's Company and later that of Capt. Charles Gobin, 6th Battalion, Berks County Militia, in which capacity he guarded the Hessian prisoners of war, marching from their camp in Reading to Philadelphia. Jacob wrote his will on 12 March 1803, and it was probated on 14 March 1804.

Jacob Joder, son of the Immigrant Jost Joder and wife Elizabeth, was born in 1735 in the Oley Valley , Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was only seven years old at the death of his father. At the age of 22 years, Jacob enlisted in the Provincial service of Pennsylvania on November 6, 1757. He was a saddler for three years in Captain John Nicholas Weatherholt's Company. He was stationed in Heidelberg Township, Northampton County in March and April, 1758. (PA Archives, 2, ser., vol.II)
Jacob served in the American Revolution as a private in Peter Nagle's Company and later in Captain Charles Gobin's militia, Colonel Joseph Hiester commanding, August 10 to September 9, 1780. He was in a detachment of the Sixth Battalion to guard prisoners of war from the Hessian camp, Reading to Philadelphia. (Source of information - Keim and Allied Families.)
Jacob Joder married Maria Keim who was born in November, 1734 in the Oley Valley of Berks County. Maria was the daughter of the Immigrant Johannes Keim and his second wife, Maria Elizabeth. Johannes Keim, the pioneer of the Huguenots to the Oley Valley, was born about 1675 near Speier, Rhine Valley in Germany and came to America around 1707.
From tax lists in the Pennsylvania Archives, Jacob Joder was found living in Rockland Township of Berks County in 1767. In the third series, Volume 18, page 10, Jacob owned 74 acres of land. In 1768, Jacob owned 160 acres, 2 horses. 5 cattle, and three sheep. In 1784, he owned 200 acres, 4 horses, 8 cows, 11 sheep and 8 persons were living in the household.
Jacob and Maria Keim Joder had 12 children. The births or baptisms have not been located but the children are listed in Jacob's will in Volume 4, page 214 in the Reading, PA Courthouse. The date of the will is March 12, 1803, probated on March 14, 1804. The wife, Maria, is not mentioned so she must be deceased in 1803. His estate is divided into twelve equal portions. A YODER SERVES IN THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR
Samuel Yoder (c1726-1771), son of John, the son of Oley immigrant Hans Joder, was a
soldier in the French and Indian War. He served with General Wolfe on the Heights of Abraham in the capture of Quebec.. According to Bertolet ' s Fragments of the Past:
"He was gone ten years, and meanwhile endured a great many hardships and privations. (Everybody had given him up for lost, and as the years rolled on no one thought that he would ever return, save his ever faithful wife, who remained constant to him. Her hope was finally realized, to the surprise of all in has safe return.) He came back as one of the wretched examples generally the fruit of war, and finally died outdoors. "His wife was a daughter of Mr. Oyster...and a sister to Mrs.John Yoder---Two children were born to them after his return. His son George was a soldier in the Revolution."

She was married to Jacob Yoder (son of Johann Yost Yoder and Catharine Oyster) on 2 Mar 1790 in Schwarzwald Church, Jacksonwald, PA. Jacob Yoder (11) was born about 1750. He died about 1816. Actual record says Jacob Jotter; but research has shown Jotter, Joder, Yoder are all the same. Married at Schwarzwald Church by Rev. John William Boos, 2 March 1790. A note from the Yoder Web Site says this Jacob was: "lame, short witted, a drunkard.....moved to other side of the Schuylkill.....father of "Irish Pete". About 1805 may have moved to Howerter's Church area. Catharina Bierman and Jacob Yoder had the following children:

The granddaughter of one of the first two Yoder immigrants to the
new world, Yost Yoder of Steffisburg, Switzerland who settled in Oley,
Berks county,PA was Elizabeth Yoder ,born to his son John Yost Yoder and
Catherine Euster(Oyster, Luster) in Oley township in December 26, 1751.
Elizabeth married Matthias Roth (Rhoads) of Amity Township, Berks
County,PA . The exact date of marriage is not currently known. Seven
children were born to this union.
The Rhoads family who became linked to the Yoders arrived in
America in 1717 at Philadelphia. In Wuerttemburg, specifically in Bonfeld,
the family surname was ROTH.
Johann Jacob Roth (Jr) was a first settler in Amity township, Berks
county, PA and purchased land there immediately upon arrival in 1717. His
second son, Johann Jacob Roth (III), born in Bonfeld in 1711. remained in
Amity and married Anna Elizabeth ________ prior to 1738. Their son
Matthias, b. 1742 married Elizabeth Yoder and had children: Mary, Esther,
Jacob, Joseph, Abraham, John.
It is interesting to note that by this time all parties were using their
surname of RHOADS ,although in the church they still continued to be
recorded as ROTH. For example, the church records of the German
Reformed Church -Schwartzwald -Rev. William Boos - has a burial ...ROTH,
Matthias, his wife-December 21,1751-December 6, 1790 39 years,less 20
days... (Elizabeth Yoder Rhoads). and also had a baptism of note: Parent-
Matthias Roth- Joseph,born Nov. 12,1785, baptized October 21,1787.
Sponsor, the father.
Matthias Rhoads served as Lt. Col. in Col. Jacob Weavers's
battalion, 5th Battalion Berks County Militia in 1777 and was present at the
battle of Brandywine and probably at the route in Paoli, serving on
duty in the Great Valley afterwards. Matthias died in 1804, some 14 years
after his wife Elizabeth Yoder. The siblings were then scattered to the
environs of a neighboring county. Joseph Rhoads, the author's
antecedent, was still a minor technically, at this time and Jacob Griesemer,
his sister's husband was appointed guardian at his request. Joseph had
followed, with the death of his father, several of his brothers and sisters to
Northumberland county. Note also, that Matthias Rhoads had George Yoder
and son John Yoder, "trusty friend" appointed as executors to his will dated
1804.
Joseph Rhoads was known locally as "the German Major" because
he served in the War of 1812 and finally achieved the rank of Major with the
local militia. Joseph was mentioned in the will of his grandfather John Yost
Yoder which was probated April 13,1812 in Reading.
The Yoder family history has touched that of the Rhoads family in
many ways and we are the better for it with the inspiration of those rugged
"Schweizers" and their travails and accomplishments cited lovingly in the
Yoder newsletter for the benefit of all of us.

Peter of Rockland Township married Anna Oyster on August 17, 1784 by Rev. John William Boos, pastor of Schwartzwald Reformed Church in Exeter Township, Berks County, PA. Peter died intestate according to the Orphans Court of Reading, PA, dated January, 1818. He left a farm of 156 acres in Pike Township, his widow, and the following children: 1 Daniel, born on July 15, 1789 in Berks County, moved to a place near Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, PA in the year 1825. In 1850 he went to Pottsville, PA and died there on December 3, 1871

Daniel married Mary LaRosa in 1815;
2. Hannah, married Abraham Mensch;
3. Esther, married Daniel Focht;
4. Elizabeth, married Abraham Strohm;
5. George; and
6. Mary; and
7. Sarah were minor children at the death of their father.
There was also a deceased son Benjamin.

AKA ; "Irish Pete" committed suicide by hanging himself.

The son, Abraham - there is no documentation on Abraham. An Abraham of Rockland Township married Elisabetha Breyvogel on September 26, 1802 by Rev Boos. Since the family of Jacob and Maria Keim Joder are the only Joder's living in Rockland Township at census, this is probably the correct Abraham.

The son, Jacob was born November 6, 1772 and died July 30, 1837. He married Anna Maria Bertho (Barto)(1777-1838), daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Barbara Maurer Bertho. On May 5, 1815, ten of their children were baptized at Christ Mertz Lutheran Church in Dryville, PA. Maria was born March 12, 1798; Johannes was born August 8, 1799 and died August 29, 1800; Sara was born November 26, 1800, died November 1, 1856 and married Henrich Heffner; Reuben was born May 6, 1802; Jakub was born February 2, 1804 and died April 26, 1826, age 23; Christina was born November 13, 1805; Lea, born May 29, 1807; Elisabeth, born May 8, 1809; Gideon B. was born March 28, 1811 and died February 18, 1893 (buried in Spies Church Cemetery); and Catharina was born July 1, 1813, died August 13, 1875, married her first cousin, Benjamin Angstadt - 18 children, 8 sons and 10 daughters. The last child born to Jacob and Anna Maria Bertho was Benneville on December 19, 1821. The author's source of information other than the baptisms at Christ Mertz Lutheran Church was the death notice by Rev. Isaac Roeller of Sarah Joder, wife of Henrich Heffner and daughter of Jacob Joder and Maria Barto. Also the Reading Historical Society lists a run down cemetery on a private farm at Lobachsville with the tombstones of Jacob and wife Maria and sons Johannes (1799-1800) and Jakub (1804-1826).

Daughter Maria (Mary) married Hans Nikel (John Nicholas) Mensch of Oley on February 27, 1798 by Rev. Philip Pauli of the First Reformed Church of Reading, PA. The transcriber of Rev. Pauli's records seemed to have all of the Joder names misspelled as Gotter. There is no further research available on this marriage. It was found many times in this generation of Joder's that the name was spelled Jotter as well.

Daughter Barbara was also deceased at the time of her father's death and will. Again the names of the grandchildren were not listed in the will. Barbara married Johannes Eister (Oyster) on January 7, 1784 by Rev. Boos. A descendant of Johannes and Barbara Joder Oyster is Mrs. Ann Cunin Hillis, 191 W. Bayton St., Alliance, Ohio 44601. Mrs. Hillis has made many fine contributions to the Yoder Newsletter. Johannes Eister (Oyster) was married a second time to Esther Beckli on April 10, 1796 by Rev. Johann Vilhelm Ingold. Two known children born to Johannes and Esther were 1. Hana, born July 19,1798 and 2. Daniel, born December 20, 1799.

daughter Susanna married Henrich Horner (or Herner) of Exeter Township on April 23, 1782 by Rev. Boos. Susanna was deceased at the time of her father's death in 1803. The names of the grandchildren were not given in the father's will. A second marriage was found on Henrich Horner on June 4, 1798 at Schwartzwald Church to Catharina Bohm of Amity Township. A son, Henrich Horner, was baptized by Rev. Boos at 11 weeks of age on November 24, 1800 - the sponsor was Johann Wilhelm Boos .

The daughter, Elizabeth was born on February 18, 1755 and died in January, 1842. Evidently Elizabeth was the first born child of Jacob and Maria Keim Joder. Elizabeth married Ludwig Graeber (born November 29, 1752), son of Andreas Graeber at New Goshenhoppen Reformed Church, Montgomery County, PA on July 21, 1779. Two known children of this union were l Andreas, born July 2, 1780 and 2 Elisabeth, born June 25, 1783.

Daniel was born in 1758 and died May 1, 1822 He married Esther Hoch (High), daughter of Rudolph and Marie Hoch of Maidencreek Township. In the 1790 and 1800 Census of the United States, Daniel Joder was living in Rockland Township. Their children were 1. Jacob; 2. Maria, married Daniel Ziegler; 3. Samuel; 4.Elizabeth, married Johann Reppert in 1809; 5.Esther (1789-1873); 6 Susanna, married William Weidner; 7 Catharine (1792-1858) married Martin Landis in 1821 - died in Waterloo, Michigan; 8. David, married Catharine Weidner - in 1850 census was living in Varick Town, Seneca County, New York with children David, Jr., Caroline, Hanna, Isaac, Nathan, Daniel, Ellen J., William H , Oliver, and Henry; 9 Hannah (1802-1879) married Jacob Weidner (1796-1884) 1 son and 3 daughters. Daniel's (1758-1822) will is dated May 22, 1820 and probated in 1830 The executors were son, Samuel, and son-in-law, William Weidner. The 130 acre farm was sold to Jacob Veidner for $2,600.

The son, Johannes was born in Rockland Township in 1763 and died October 26, 1847 in Richmond Township. He married Fronica Emmerich (daughter of Herman and Hana Baral Emmerich) on December 23, 1788 by Rev John William Boos of the Schwartzwald Reformed Church. The children born to this marriage were: l. Hanna, born June 30, 1789; 2. Maria, born August 27, 1790; 3. Jacob, born June 27, 1792 married (1) Lydia Brown and (2) Catharina Ernst. The children of Jacob and Lydia were Maria (1815-1849) married Benjamin Kelchner; Amos (1816-1893) married Elizabeth Moyer; William (1820-1890) married Susanna Strunk; Johannes (1821-1871) married Elizabeth Schmehl; Isaac died in infancy; and James (1824-1865) died in the Civil War. The children to Jacob and his second marriage to Catharina Ernst were Sarah, Daniel, married Susanna Gerhard, Catharina, Esther, married Thomas Wenrich and Benneville. Jacob moved to Heidelberg Township (Wernersville) around 1840, died there in 1861 and is buried in Hain's Cemetery. 4. Johannes was born June 19, 1794 and died June 12, 1854, married Magdalena Breyfogel and had 12 children (Mrs. Robert Yeatman, 627 Flamingo St , Philadelphia, PA 19128 is a descendant and her husband has done considerable research on the Yoder lineage. The author is grateful to Bob for his faithful correspondence and valuable information ) 5. Catharina, born November 15, 1796; 6. Abraham was born in 1799 and died in 1826; 7 David (1804-1851) married Mary Levan - 11 children - Daniel Yoder, M.D. Of Catasaqua, Lehigh County, PA; Alfred; Thomas Biery Yoder; Hannah; William Henry; Sarah; Elizabeth Rebecca; Mary Jane (married William Faulk); Jacob; Peter John (1849-1885); and Margaret Alice. David and Mary Levan Yoder moved to Lehigh County (Whitehal1 Township) in 1834, and are buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Shoenersville, Lehigh County. (Richard Yotter of Lititz, PA contributed the lineage of David and Mary Levan Joder. Dick is a valued genealogical friend. Also Mrs. Florence Gordon of Walnut Creek, California is a direct descendant of David and Mary Levan Yoder's daughter Sarah and is a sharing genealogist). The 8th and last child of Johannes and Fronica was Christina, born February 7, 1807 and died August 30, 1889 and was married to Peter Merkel.

The daughter Magdalena was born in 1764 and died on September 25, 1857. She married Jacob Angstadt (1760-1821) of District Township on April 23, 1788 by Rev. Boos. Magdalena was the author's clue that Maria Keim was the wife of Jacob Joder as they were stated as the parents of Magdalene in her obituary by Rev. Isaac Roeller. When Magdalena died in 1857, she was survived by six children, 88 grandchildren and 126 great grandchildren. The children born to Magdalena and Jacob Angstadt were as follows: 1. Jacob Angstadt; 2. Henrich, born May 20, 1789 in Rockland Township, married Catharina Scheurer, died May 6, 1856 and had six children (Elayne Rickmers of Kutztown, PA is a direct descendant); 3. Maria, born November 12, 1792, died September 19, 1868, married Dewalt Bieber and had 11 children; 4. Catharina; 5. Sarah; 6. Elizabeth, born December 22, 1798, died November 20, 1884 and married John Hilbert; 7. Christina, born August 6, 1806, died April 26, 1883 and married Johan Berter (Barto) - 16. children were born to this marriage all in Rockland Township; 8. Barbara (or Deborah); 9. The daughter, Catharine was born in 1766, Rockland Township, and died May 12, 1837. She married Abraham Angstadt on February 20, 1787 by Rev. Boos. Abraham was born on December 5, 1764, the son of Johannes and Anna Maria Kolb Angstadt. He died on October 5, 1842. Catherine and Abraham were the parents of five children: 1. Elisabeth, born July 30, 1787 and died on April 2, 1877 and married John Moser on September 1, 1816 (microfilm #31, Reading Historical Society); 2. Susanna, born on January 26, 1790, died in 1850 and married Jacob Hertz; 3. Magdalena, born October 19, 1799 in Rockland Township, died May 23, 1857, married Johann Hamsher; 4. Hannah, born October 14, 1803, died December 26, 1865, married Jacob Frederick; 5. Benjamin, the only son, was born March 8, 1807, died August 30, 1879, married his first cousin Catharine Joder, daughter of Jacob (Catharine Joder Angstadt's brother) and Maria Bertho (Barto) on March 23, 1831. EIGHTEEN CHILDREN were born to this marriage. The lineage of Catherine Joder and Abraham Angstadt has been researched and contributed by Elayne E. Rickmers (Mrs. Harold James Rickmers) 436 E.
