    Notes:

    Adam was killed by Confederate raiders during the Civil war. Adam was the eldest son of John and Nancy. He was listed as a tax-payer in the 1837 Sevier County tax list, but was not in the 1840 census. At the time of the 1850 census, Adam was in John's household and was listed as insane. In the 1860 census (after John's death), Adam was living with his brother, Cornelius.
    From "In the Shadow of the Smokies": Adam Fox was the son of John Fox and Nancy Patterson Fox. He was said to have been somewhat feeble-minded. During the Civil War he was killed by a group of raiders, while the women and children begged them to let him go All of the men of the neighborhood had scattered to the woods to escape the raiders. The women of the vicinity dug the grave and buried Adam there. This burial is not known.
