John HENDERSON
John Francis Henderson Age 83 of Wilmington, DE, passed away Wednesday,
April 19, 2000 in Charlotte, NC.
He was born April 13, 1917 to John Newton and Helen Frances Henderson and
was preceded in death by his lovingwife of 57 years, Cecilia Theresa and his
daughter, Elizabeth.
He graduated from Wilmington High School. Over the years, he worked at
DuPont Experimental Station, All American Engineering, Slocombs, Baldwin Lima
and Hamilton, Chrysler, Westinghouse, and Bartley's Electrical Service.
His occupation was machinist and tool and dye maker.
His interests were steam trains, beekeeping, gardening, farming and bird
watching. He was happiest when he was close to nature. He was interested in
ecology and nutrition long before these concepts were fashionable. He was a
member of the Delaware Soaring Society and an usher and member at St.
Hedwig's Church for many years.
Dad lived his life for othersand was proud to have sent his 8 children to 100
years of Catholic school. Helived his faith in a gentle and caring manner and
was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his brother, James Henderson of Wilmington; his daughters,
Ann Shankar of Charlotte, NC, Mary Barrish of Newark, DE, Cecilia Del Percio
of Wilmington; his sons, John W. of Landenberg, PA, James R. of Lewisville,
PA, Peter J. of Yorklyn, DE and Joseph of Swarthmore, PA.He is also survived by
15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He will besorely missed, but his love,
wisdom and the knowledge he instilled in us willlive for generations.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 26 at 10:30 am at St.
Hedwig's Church, Linden and Harrison Sts., Wilmington. Friends are invited to
call on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 703 N. Broom
St., Wilmington. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please
make donations to St. Hedwig's Church Building Fund, 408 S. Harrison St.,
Wilmington, DE 19805.
