EDITOR'S NOTE: Following is a historical account of the Long family and
some of it's descendants. Dating back to the late vrth century, the author
reveals the names of members of the well-known Long family.
Long Family
John George Long, the founder of this family, was born in England and
settled in Rockefeller Township, Northumberland County, about 1790 when he
received a grant of land from the state of Pennsylvania. He was a soldier
in the War of 1812 (Bell, History of Northumberland County, Page 1231). He
settled on a farm now occupied by Andrew Gonser where he died and is buried.
He lived about a mile west of the "Old Stone Church" on the second farm
west of Augustaville. John George Long was an officer in this church and
also helped to build it. At one time, A.J. Smith owned this farm for 20
years. Mrs. E. N. Heckert of Sunbury knows the whereabouts of John Long's
grave on his old farm.

The article goes on to mention John George Long's sons, George Long (my
ancestor) and John Long Jr. Also mentioned are a few of George Long's
children and grandchildren.
