Simon Peter Conrad
Retired PRR Employee dies
A marital union of more than 51 years was broken with the death of Simon Peter Conrad in his home, 416 Fairmount Ave, at 7:25 o'clock this morning. He had been bedfast for the past 6 months with complications. He was aged 78 years, one month and 5 days. He was born in Sunbury, September 1 1863, the son of the late Henry B and Mary Ann Conrad. The golden weddingof Mr and Mrs Conrad was celebrated by their family in August, 1940. Mrs. Conrad's maiden name was Margaret A. Knisely, and she was a native of Juniata Valley. Entering the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1883, Mr. Conrad was engaged for 45 years as a car repairman on the Williamsport Division, first in the Sunbury shops and late at Northumberland. He retired September 1, 1938, at the age of 65 years. He was for many years a member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church. He gave up other affiliations with advancing years. He is survived by his wife: one daughter Mrs James Linderman, of Jersey Shore; 3 sons, Robert E Conrad and Russel E Conrad of Sunbury, and William D Conrad of Wilmington DE; 3 sisters, Mrs William Welch of South 4th Street, Mrs William Neuer of North 4th Street, and Mrs Margaret Geiser of Philadelphia, PA; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchilden. His son Robert E Conrad is city controller and treasurer of Milton Jarrett Norman Post No 201, American Legion. He is the second member of the post to be bereaved by loss of his father within two days, the first being Joh Bayers. Fungeral services will be held from his home, 416 Fairmont Ave, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev L.B. Barton, Pastor of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church will officate. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
