Notes - Charles and Anna were married in Mt. Carmel, PA in June 6, 1903 by W.A. Shoemaker. They settled in Helfenstein building their new home about 1909. The homestead remains in the family at the present time, occupied by Esther, the youngest, who mar ried Ralph Wetzel in 1951. Charles parent's owned and operated an Inn in Helfenstein where Charles worked as a 'Hostler'- which meant he cared for the horses of the patrons. Anna worked as a 'Chamber Maid' taking care of cleaning rooms for guest s of the inn. She later became the head cook. Charles and Anna fell in love and at the age of 17 she became his bride. Charles was 21 years old at the time. In early married life, Charles worked as a bar tender in his family hotel until be became a miner at Locust Gap Colliery. It was at this coal mine where he met his death in a 1941 mine collapse.
