He would come home drunk and beat his wife to a bloody pulp, and on one occasion through her out a second story window. He grew up speaking Polish, as his parents were Polish immigrants to the Chicago around 1890. Stanley was a Polish Roman Catholic. His three sons remember having to wrestle him to the ground while he was drunk until the police got to their house, so that he would not kill their mother or one of them in one of his drunken rages.
