notes from death certificates of children:
Phillip Derr, parents = Michael Derr and ??
Elizabeth Dimler, parents = Michael Derr and ?? (mother born in PA)
Susannah Smith, parents = Michele Dree and Elizabeth Moyer

note - there was some confusion in filling out Susannah's death certificate. The
entry for fatherhad __y_r (it looks like the leading letter would not have been an 'M'
like the one written below), which was erased, and then Dree written on top.
(although even the leading 'D' is hard to read, only the _ree is clear). Clearly, this
should have been Derr and Boyer.

Michael married Elisabeth BOYER Bef 1838, Northumberland Co, PA. Elisabeth (daughter of Philip BEYER and Sarah GEIST) was born 13 Jun 1820, Upper Mahantongo Twp, Schuylkill Co, PA; died Aft 1880, Boyersville, Butler Twp, Schuylkill Co, PA. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Elisabeth BOYER was born 13 Jun 1820, Upper Mahantongo Twp, Schuylkill Co, PA (daughter of Philip BEYER and Sarah GEIST); died Aft 1880, Boyersville, Butler Twp, Schuylkill Co, PA.

    Other Events:

    • Baptism: 25 Jun 1820, Howerter's Luth Church, Upper Mahanoy Twp, Northumberland Co, PA
    • _UID: 1F70777B3A3F459E8592A274FC8AA01E4E10

    Notes:

Although Susanna Derr Smith's death certificate says her parents are Michael "Dree"
and Elizabeth "Moyer", I really think her last name is Boyer. Not only does she fit in
nicely with Philip Boyer's family, but the sponsorship by Salome Boyer (then
Neidlinger) would suggest this relationship. Also the sponsor by George Boyer would
suggest the same. Geographically, Salome lived in the upper eastern tip of Eldred
Twp which is down the valley from the families in Cameron Twps which attended the
same church. Later the Derrs and Boyers are neighbors near Fountain Hill.

The Moyer just doesn't check out anywhere. The person doing the death certificate
already had problems writing Derr (the namein the History of Schuylkill County
writeup on Daniel S. Smith), and the memory of Elisabeth's parents' names may
    have long faded.

Since I've found the sponsor evidance, the fact that Salome had a daughter born
at the right time, they are at the church where Michael Derr's first kids are
baptized, that Salome (then Neidlinger) make the trek over to Fountain Springs for
later baptims of Michael Derr and also his daughter, and the similarity of last names
(Boyervs. Moyer), I'm writing up the family with Elizabeth as a Boyer.

Note also that Elisabeth's maternal grandparents, George Geist and Margaretha were
the god parents for Michael Derr (at his baptism) so there might have been a friendly
relationship between the Geist's and Derr's at that early time.

Note alsothe children Lovina born 1852, and Philip born 1855. These would appear
to be named after Elisabeth's brother Philip Boyer and his wife Lovina.

    did she remarry?
    Elizabeth Derr and David O'Leary
Elizabeth Derr and Joseph G Hubler

History of Lehigh County, pg 1253, mentions Bernard Schneider of Lynn Twp on the
    "John Derr farm"

In looking at the baptism, I can't make out who the parents are. This needs rechecked.

    Notes:

The baptism of her daughter Esther has god parents as Frederick Hummel
and Magdalena (who is supposed to be a Heffneralso). But is that Magdalena
a sister, or just close cousin? Interesting also is that Heinrich had a daughter
Eva Catharine at about the right time. He seems to be the only one that has
daughters Magdalena and Catharine at this time, and he's also living
in proximity to the Hummel family (and not far from the Derr's).

But, from the book "Family Record of the Descendants of Henry Haeffner",

Heinrich married Maria Eva Kelchner, daughter of
Matthais Kelchnerand his wife, on November 28, 1752. He established
himself about one mile south of Virginville, Pa. They were the
parents of six children as recorded in the family Bible. Thomas
Hefner notes that he (Thomas) has a paper with the sealof the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in which it states that Henry was a
soldier in the Revolution. There are others of the Hef(f)ners who
served and one of them, who was captured by the British, having taken
the oath not to take up arms against the British, nonetheless stayed
with the Colonists and helped thecause by driving a supply wagon.

    According to http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks,

    "Heinrich Haeffner,
the great-great-grandfather of Franklin D. Heffner. emigrated from
the Palatinate, Wurtemberg, Germany. He was twice married, his second
wife being Maria Eva Kelchner, daughter of Matthaus Kelchner, an
early settler of Richmond township. She bore him two sturdy sons and
four daughters, namely: Johann Heinrich; Hans Georg, born in 1757,
married Maria Hummel, and died in 1818; Eva Catharine; Elizabeth; Eva
    Magdalena, and Catharine.

Heinrich Haeffner (Haffner) was a son of
Andreas Haeffner of Eberstadt, Darmstadt, Germany. The latter married
in 1752, and established himself about one milesouth of Virginville,
on the land now owned by Richard G. Trexler. He was probably a
weaver, as he mentioned "den Webstuhl und das Geschirr dazu' in an
agreement with his son Heinrich made April 13, 1784.

funny, but I'm only partially convinced that Samuel here is the father of my Philip.
Somewhat based on proximity, etc, but Samuel does have a child Philip at just

to be a family group going on and some of them go further north up to

The Geist Relation, 200 years in America

George Geist was born in Frederick Township, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania,
now Montgomery County, on October 8th,1766. The way the records show this
youngest son was born after the death ofhis father. When he attained the
age of ten years his mother died and all through his life it was nothing but
sad occurrences for this young man. At the age of about twenty-two years
he went into the tannery business with his brother Valentine but it did not
work so well and while in this partnership with his brother he was married
and had one child, then becoming dissatisfied with the tannery partnership
he decided to leave Berks County and go to the wilds of Northumberland
County, where his brothers Andrew and Samuel had gone. The nearest date
we can set for his moving to this wilderness is 1796 and while he followed
the Tulpehocken Trail, he either missed the right direction or deliberately
switched away from this Trail. At the west end of Keffers on top of the
Broad Mountain the Tulpehocken Trail had a branch leading off to the right
and instead of him going straight he turned right bringing him down the
side of this Broad Mountain into the Hegins Valley which he crossed and
came to the Mahantongo Mountain. This he also crossed and came into the
Mahantongo Valley and crossing the the bigger part of this valley he finally
settled to the southwest of now the Howerter's Church. All these names and
places were unknown atthat time and all they knew was the Tulpehocken
Trail. Another sad occurrentce, that he missed the right trail and
had to cross the mountain ranges while the right trail which his brothers
followed pass through the gaps avoiding thecrossing of the mountain ranges.

etc. next wife's name was Ibrig [sic Ihrig]
    etc.
