Nicolaus seems to have signed his name "Niclaus Wolf or Wolff" in records.

Northumberland Co Acct book 1:509 mentions children

Floyd's History of Northumberland County, pg 596:

Mr. Wolf's first direct ancestor in this county was his great-
grandfather, Nicholas Wolf, but there is earlier record of those of the
namehere...If these Wolfs were of the same family as the forefathers
of David C.Wolf, the records at hand do not show the connection.

Nicholas Wolf was a native of Lehigh county, where he lived upon
and owned land in White Hall township upon which the Lehigh county
court-house is located. It is considered to beamong the best
agricultural land in that county. About 1812 he brought his family from
Lehigh county to Northumberland county, settling near Seven Points, in
what is now Rockefeller township, on a farm later owned by Peter Oyster.

On May 22, 1815, Nicholas Wolf agreed to pay Philip Weiser $113.35 on or
before May 1, 1820, five year judgment note; under same date, May 22,
1815, appears, Nicholas Wolf, $225, judgment note, double; another,
$775.52. Nicholas Wolf and his family were Lutherans, and are buried in
the old cemetery at Lantz'schurch. The older children -if not all- of
the family were born in Lehigh county, before the removal to
    Northumberland.

We have the following record of the family: Abraham was
the grandfather of David C. Wolf and is mentioned below; Joel, born Aug.
27, 1805, was a farmer, and lived near the Cross Road church in
Rockefeller township, and he is buried at that church, where the record
shows that he died Jan. 25, 1895 (his wife, Mary M., born Aug. 13, 1811,
died Feb. 20, 1901); John lived in Hollowing Run, in Lower Augusta
township; ThomasB., born Feb. 26, 1809, lived in Rockefeller township,
died April 2, 1864, and is buried at Wolf's Cross Road church (his wife,
Susanna, died Nov. 28, 1887, aged seventy-five years, two months,
sixteen days); Henry settled at Red Bank, Jefferson Co., Pa.; Polly was
Mrs. Bacon; another daughter married Israel Steffen; Betsy married
William Bartholomew; Hannah married Daniel Conrad; Christina married
    John Crissinger.

Johan married Maria Magdalena MAURER 1789, Whitehall Twp, Lehigh Co, PA. Maria (daughter of Johan Adam MAURER and Maria Catharine SASSEMANHAUSEN) was born 4 Jun 1770, North Whitehall Twp, Lehigh Co, PA; died Aft 1850, Lower Augusta Twp, Northumberland Co, PA; was buried Emmanuel Lutheran (Old Lantz) Church, Lower Augusta Twp, Northumberland Co, PA. Notes:

the reasons for putting her here are:
    - not sure if last name is Mayer or Maurer. son Joel Wolf's county death rec says Moure
    - first sponsor was Maria Barbara Maurer
    - Adam Maurer is only one in Whitehall at this time
    - Adam had adaughter Maria Magdalena born the right year

Estate records: accounting shows money "due the Trustees of Whitehall Meeting house."

The History of Lehigh Co, Vol III, pg 1383 mentions Elisabeth, widow of Nicholas Wolf
marrying Jacob Wenner who died in 1802. Actually, a transfer document (possibly
mentioning the son Nicholas) has Elisabeth Wolf, widow of Jacob Wolf (his second wf)
marrying Jacob Wenner. Apparently the record was misinterpretted here.

    Notes:

Note - I have her born in Germany, but based on the lenght of a boat trip, one
might think she was born at sea. That assumes that this Catharine is the daughter of
    Johannes Sassemanausen.

Note: I'm just guessing she's a Sassamenhausen. I see the sponsors and it makes
me wonder. So this is a working theory only - no strong data or feelings on this one.

    consider:
the only Sassamenhausen's at either Neffs or Heidelberg are Peter and Maria Magdalena
Sassamanhausen there for an Adam Maurer baptism (ie they seem to be visiting to a
church outside of where they live.

that Peter Maurer disappears from here and one reappears at Moselem with a
Sassemenhausen. That is it seems that Peter later married a Sassemenhausen.
His wife dies and he remarries which is consistent with John's daughter Magdalena
being dead when his will was made in 1801.

Peter then has sponsors of Frederick Kramer (known son-in-law of John S.) and
Elisabeth Sasseman (a known name of a daughter of John)

Jacob Maurer also ends up in Greenwich Twp (where John S. lived).

I went to the Mt.Olivet Cemetery two summers ago. I saw Henry
Slagle's tombstone. There were others there too but I don't remember who
they were. Christopher, George and their wives may be right there with
him. I remember reading about a mausoleum put up for the Slagle's
themselves or put up in their memory. Can't remember. I saw the
mausoleum and it is very near where Henry is buried. All you have to do
is turn around from Henry's and you'll see it.

    This should help Tim

Note, based on the age of Adam, one would think Adam could have been married
in Germany and had children before being married to Catharine. Age is from ship list
I believe. I still wonder if maybe he was in fact younger when he came over.

notes on the Kocher family (relations?) (see world connect on rootsweb)
From Peter Baillet , Nancy, Lorraine, France, on Nov 23 1998:

"On Sep. 26, 1737 three Kocher families landed in Philadelphia :
    1. GeorgeKocher and his wife Anna Maria nee Zurbruck;

    2. Nicholas Kocher, his wife Anna Barbara nee Koehl, their son
John Nicholas (bap. Dec. 21, 1727) and their four daughters
Anna Eva (bap. Dec. 14, 1725),
Anna Elizabeth (bap. Jan. 2, 1732),
Anna Christina (bap. Dec. 12, 1735) and
    Anna Barbara (bap. Apr. 21, 1737);
    (married before 1710?)
    (A Christ and William Wotring)

    3. Martin Kocher (son of Johannes Kocher and of Anna nee Mertz) and his wife Sara ROSE,
daughter of Abraham ROSE from Schalbach, Lorraine. Martin and Sara had married
on Jan. 3, 1737. They settled in Heidelberg Twp., Lehigh Co., Pa. Martin died in 1762.
His widow and second wife is listed as Anna Maria Kocherin. Administrators
of the estate were Peter Kocher and Henry Geiger. The administration of the estate lasted
    from 1762 - 1765.

These three Kocher families lived in Hangwiller, Lorraine. They emigrated to Pa. on board
the St.Andrew. Hangwiller and Schalbach were part of the Lutheran parish of
Wintersbourg, Lorraine. All the baptisms and marriages mentioned above were celebrated
at Wintersbourg, although the Kocher, Mertz and ROSE families were reformed (Calvinist).
In the Eighteenth Century, Lorraine was part of Germany. Nowadays it is part of France."

He may have been of one of the other families of Hangwiller, and not Nicholas' brother.

I have my "Sassemanhausen" children (ones I think were Sassemanhausens) under

What links them to John? Right now, only that Peter Maurer was a sponsor

    wf Elisabeth
decendents of Catharine (when 21) (I think she was alive in 1800)
decendents of decd Magdalena (when 21) (I think she was decd in 1800)

    Elisabeth

s-i-l Michael Sharrer [and Margaretha] 1782

(it would appear that Peterwould have been a son, but since he disappears, he may
    have died without heirs?)

I have the English and German versions. In the German, it looks like gestorben (dead)
before Magdalena and Maria, but in front of Catharine, it's hard to see. The
ink is smudged, but it looks like just "Ereben von meine dochter Catharine". The English translation only had decd in front of the name Maria. The spaces around the blobs
in "von mein" do not look like the writer's "verstorbene" hoops for the 's' and 'b' could
really be there (that is, I don't believe it could be verstorbene instead of von meine)

Inventory has a bond, money owed to a John Maurer
