from John Yoder, of Oley township, Philadelphia county, two
Irish servant men; the one named Daniel Donahew, about 40
years of age, of middling size, long thinvisage, much pock
mark, has a large scar on his left cheek, and another on his
neck, black hair, if not cut off, by trade a miller. Had on
when he went away, a felt hat, homespun shirt, a light brown
linsey jacket, with brass buttons, two trowsers, yarn

black hair,if not cut off. Had on when he went away, a
chestnut colourlinsey jacket, a fine hat, an ozenbrigs
shirt, tow trowsers, and new shoes. They took some other
cloaths with them. and perhaps may change those describ
above. Whoever takesup and brings the said servants to their
master, or secures them in any goal,so that he may have them
again, shall have THREE PISTOLES reward for each, and
reasonable charges, paid by JOHN YODER.
See Yoder Newsletter #37, pg 6 mentions land bought by a John Yoder of Oley Twp,
land in Reading Twp, York Co.Later it goes to a Daniel Yoder. Possibly this John
and his son Daniel.
A curious deed in Northampton. Possibly John was buying land for his
kids?

John Oyster, witness to will of Johannes Boyer, 1742
Note that sometimes John George Oyster seems to show up under John Oyster
(although with the German Rufsnamen tradition, he'd show up as George
Oyster *or* John George Oyster).
I'd really like to see the Oyster families sorted out. The records on the family
are scarce and there's confusion which children married which. I'm not
sure of the source of Samuel Yoder's wife being an Oyster/Eister but
if she is, it would seem logical that she'dbe in this family.
From http://eister.com/eistergn/d40.htm
born on 1 Mar1703 in Stuttgart, Neckar, Wuerttemberg, (Germany). He died in Aug 1789 in Oley, Berks, PA
The Eyster Family by Anita L. Eyster
"John George Oyster was the oldest son of John Jacob. He arrived with his father but his exact age we donot know. His signature is found on the Petition for protection against the Indians in 1728, and he must have married about that time but the name of his wife is unknown. He wrote his name always John Aister or Oyster, on Deeds and on his Will and it is only the final settlement of his estate that we are able to identify him with the George of his father's Will. He was naturalized at the same time as his father but began to acquire land at an earlier date; 200 acres inOley was fully paid for by 1739, and this was the plantation (afterwards in District Tp., Berks County), which became the family Homestead. He also owned various other tracts in several Counties, which were sold after his
death. His oldest son, George, took the Homestead plantation, but since he died soon after his father, it passed to the grandson George. John George Oyster died in 1789, his second wife, the widow Catharine Arendts, having preceded him. He had four sons: George, just mentioned, who married Hannah Moyer; Samuel, who died 1767, leaving several children, of whom the youngest, Daniel, who married Elisabeth Reif, served in the Revolution with the rank of Captain, and lived in York County, where he died in 1798; Jacob, who married Magdalen Burkhouse and had several sons who inherited some of John George Oyster's lands and became the progenitors of the Oyster in Cumberland County and partly of those in Adams and Franklin.Samuel, Daniel and Jacob all lived in York and Adams counties. Of several daughters of John George Oyster, the oldest, Elizabeth, married John Yoder and the youngest, Margaretha, married Daniel Yoder, and was buried with him in the Yoder Ground at Pleasantville. Another daughter, Susanna, married Richard Adams anda fourth, Catharine, was married to George Schall. The Oyster family is still very numerous in Berks County." p.23 !NOTE: Naturalized 5/19/1739 He was married to Catherine (Arendts) ARENTZ in 1728 in PA.Children:

On This Day in Yoder History:
March 10, 1672-- On This Day in Yoder History- Hans Yoder (OH) was born in
Steffisburg in 1672.
Jan.27, 1708, Anna Regina, daughter of Hans Joder (OH) and his wife
Phronica (Veronica) Iselmyn was baptized at the Schwetzingen Reformed
Church. Jacob Korner, schoolmaster, and his wife Rachel were her
sponsors. Not long thereafter, Hans and family started on their journey
toward Pennsylvania (see article by Dr. Don Yoder in YNL5).
In the Schwetzingen Reformed Church register(on deposit with the Baden
Church Archives in Karlsruhle) the following is annotatedon the
baptismal record for Anna Regina , daughter of Hans Yoder (OH) and his
wife: "this family went to the Island of Pennsylvania, March 1, 1709"
Jan.14, 1711- Hans Joder (OH), a progenitor of the Oley Valley Yoder line
andbelieved as the first of our name in the New World, purchased land in
Coventry Township, Chester County, Pa...somewhere opposite the presentday
city of Pottstown. (see YNL5).
April 30, 1711- Oley immigrant Hans Yoder married Anna Rosina LeDee in a service
performed by Paulus van Vlecq at the Whitemarsh Church,
March 25, 1714 Hans Yoder (OH) received his warrent from William penn for
land along the Upper Manatawny Creek in the Oley Valley. This included
most of the land around what is now called Pleasantville... (see YNL5)
March 10, 1735, On this day in 1735, he (OH) sold land in Berks County,
Pa. to his son John (OH1).
On Jan.14, 1742- The will of Hans and his brother Yost were both "proved"
in Philadelphia. Apparently the executors of both estates made a joint
trip to the courthouse for this purpose.
A "curious German deed" dated Jan.31, 1771 at Neustadt in the German
Palatinate was found by Dr. Don Yoder on his first visit to the Berks
County Courthouse. In it, Johannas Jotter, eldest son of Nicholas Jotter,
a brother of Oley immigrants Hans and Yost, transferred his rights to
some land in Pennsylvania to his first cousin John Yoder Jr.
See Oley Valley Heritage, The Colonial Years: 1700-1775. It has pictures
of the Yoder homes and discusses Hans Yoder being part of the religious
movement called "The New Born", led by Matthias Baumann. It would seem
to explain the absence of the early Yoders from the records of nearby Lutheran
and Reformed records.
From History of Northumberland County, pg 566:
The first of the Yoder (sometimes spelled Yodder and Yotter in the
German) name in America were Yost and Hans (or Hance), brothers, who
sought refuge in England from the religious persecutions suffered in
their native Switzerland. They brought little with them to America
besides their Bible. Upon their arrival in the New World they pushed on
into the wilderness beyond Oley hills, and finally settled on the
Manatawny.
*snip info on Yost Yoder*
Hans (or Hance) Yoder, the emigrant brother of Yost, was the
builder and owner of what is now known as Griesemer's mills (burned in
1847, and rebuilt the same year). This property in the early days was
the homestead of the Yoders of Oley. The survey of theplantation under
proprietary warrant to Hance Yoder was returned March 25, 1714.
At that time Oley township was
the haunt of Indians, and of wolves, bear and other wild game. The
wives of the German settlers also bore their part in the subjugation of
the wilderness. One day while at work, extending their clearing in the
forest, they having shut their children in the cabin as a protection
from the beasts which roamed over their land, they were suddenly aroused
by the report of a rifle in the direction of their cabin. As it was
not unusual for predatory bands of bloodthirsty IroquoiJohannes married Fronica ISELMYN Bef 1700. Fronica was born Abt 1672, Europe; died Abt 1710. [Group Sheet]
