    Hi Tim,
I recall that at the workshop last spring when I first met you, you kindly
pointed out Burgert's book on Emigrants from the Northern Alsace. I just
about purchased her book while attending her session but decided in the end
to pass on the purchase. I now regretnot having it in my possession.
Well, guess what...while attending Gentech conference in Ft. Wayne
yesterday, I went to the library to take another look atthis book, a most
valuable resource for our purposes. Looking at the same information again,
I was startled to recognize our Abraham's wife Maria Eva on page 566.
Burgert simply fails to connect "Abraham Kuchen or Kuohren" to the Abraham
Knoerr she had already identified on page 302. As I recall, adding the
suffix -in to a name is distinctly Swiss syntax, isn't it?

On page 566 the following information can be found:
    Emigration: ca. 1741
    Residence: Berg
Maria Eva's father: Andreas Fass [a is umlauted; I have also seen Fahs]
Maria Eva's mother: Anna nee Eichenberger
Maria Eva's birthdate: Oct 12, 1713 at Berg, Berg and Thal Lutheran KB
Maria Eva's confirmation: 1728 at Diedendorf [five years before Abraham's
    in same church]

Inventory of Anna Eichenberger Faess, dated Jun 26, 1766: "the eldest
daughter Maria Eva Faess and her husband Abraham Kuchen or Kuohren [sic!]
have moved to the New Land 25 years ago with manumission."
There are more references to the Faess/Fahs family members on pp. 149, 150,
    357, 358.

On page 358, we learn that Maria Eva's sister Anna Dorothea married Jacob
Martin and emigrated on the ship Windsor, 1753. Jacob Martin, son of Jacob
Martin, was confirmed at Buetten Lutheran.

These church records appear to confirm our suspicions that Abraham's wife
was not Vogelsang and that Abraham did not hail from the immediate
Pirmasens-Zweibruecken area. And if you take a look at all that sponsor
information you have accumulated one discovers that most of those families
were from the northern Alsace areatoo (Biber, Scheuer, Quirin, Clauss,
Eschbach, Obel, Onstott,Traxel, Stettler, Balliet, Dormeyer, Bachman, Acker,
    etc.)
The towns of Diedendorf, Berg, Thal, Buetten, Altwiller where Christofel
Obel was from, etcetera, are all just afew miles distant from one another.
This is an area about 40 miles northwest of Strasbourg, just 5-10 miles south
of Sarre-Union, and approx. 35 miles southwest of Zweibruecken. If we
accept the authenticity and accuracy of this dataso far, we must once again
acknowledge that the birthplace and parentage of Abraham still eludes us.
But we seem to be getting closer! At least, for me, the feel, the look, the
    smell, the flavor seems right.

    Best regards, John
